June 25th, 2008This weekend I was making some music after finally figuring out how to run jackd through a Ubuntu Studio setup and a midi keyboard, this is “part a” of a sort of song thrown together with cool synth sounds and a text to speech converter that sounded eerily like Tony Blair,

KEOS photoshoot
March 24th, 2008This weekend I did a photoshoot for KEOS radio. This is a small community radiostation local to bryan, Texas. The shoot was all indoors and I had to use multiple flash heads to light the the dark studio rooms. The most challenging shot was the group photo, even with three flash units, the layout of the room ensured that there were shadows from every direction you could imagine. I had to heavily diffuse the flash units to soften the shadows and have a flash behind the group to remove any of the heavy shadows they were casting on the wall, I used a standard three point setup with diffused flash heads.
For the studio shoot, this was a different setup, the small dark room and the mass of equipment made the standard three point setup cast shadow all over the place. We re-jigged everything and put all our flash units on the floor and pointed them to the ceiling. This gave a nice even light over the face of the presenters and the equipment. Also, I set the camera to 1/60th of a second shutter speed. Normally I use 1/250th for a flash and adjust the aperture to get the right light level, but at this speed all the electrical equipments lamps looked dark. By using 1/60th the flash lit the subject and the room for the main shot and then the delay in the shutter allowed enough ambient light in from the LED displays so all the electrical equipment could be seen.
